The
Fabulous Poodles
Bobby’s
first proper band and experience as a professional musician
was in the Fabulous Poodles between
1974 and 1980. With them he recorded and released 3
albums and numerous singles; toured the UK and Europe
and the USA 3 times.
The first US tour was a mixture of club dates and support
slots with the likes of Sha-Na-Na, Aerosmith
and the Ramones.
The tours lasted between 3 & 4 months. At one point
the Fab Poos played 75 shows in 71 days – there were
lunch time shows, and some clubs would do 2 shows a
nite – (it was America, and they can’t spell).
The band had the pleasure and privilege to be chosen
as the opening act for Tom Petty & the Heartbreaks’
“Damn the Torpedoes” tour. We are informed
that every one of them had a really great time in an
era when the British New Wave consisted of Joe Jackson;
Dire Straits and the Fab Poos. Bobby has pointed out
–“It was unbelievable touring the USA at that time as
an up and coming British band, the girls loved the accent”.
There is an unofficial Fabulous Poodles site with many
photos here.
There is also a “mice pace” where a few tracks can
be heard here.
